We are delighted that you are interested in auditioning! The Camerata Singers is a wonderful group of singers with a long and rich tradition of music making in the Lehigh Valley.
We have openings in all our sections, with a particular need in the tenor and bass sections, and welcome new singers at the beginning of each semester (fall and spring).
Auditions for the fall semester will take place during the summer, and auditions for the spring semester take place during fall/winter. In some cases, it may be possible for a new singer to audition and join once the semester has begun, early in the semester.
Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings at 7pm (beginning September for the fall) at Christ Lutheran Church, 1245 Hamilton Street, Allentown PA 18102.

Audition process & materials
Our auditions are straightforward and welcoming!
We look for singers with healthy voices, pleasant tone, good intonation, some degree of music-reading skills, and who are capable and willing to learn the music on their own, outside rehearsal, with the provided learning/practice recordings. Previous choral experience is preferred.
A typical audition will consist of:

- Vocalization, to assess tone, range, intonation
- Mandatory excerpts (see below), to assess ability to learn music on their own
- Sight-singing of an easy Bach chorale, to asses music-reading skills

- Excerpt 1: And the Glory of the Lord (learn entire chorus)
- Excerpt 2: And He Shall Purify (learn up to measure 20 only)
Free learning tracks for these excerpts and the entire Messiah can be found here. To use them:
- Open the website.
- Click on the desired voice part under the desired chorus title.
- Use the "balance" cursor to the right to hear the chosen part more predominantly and less of the other parts, and to the left to hear less of the chosen part and more of the other parts. When the cursor is set at the center "stereo," the chosen part will be heard somewhat in the foreground, while the other parts appear in the background.
- Use the "playback speed" cursor to adjust the speed; it can be set at a slower speed for learning more difficult passages. Target speed for both And the Glory of the Lord and And He Shall Purify is 117%.
