Winter Concert
The PA Camerata Singers present the beloved Messiah by George Frederick Handel, for soloists, chorus and orchestra.
For over three decades, every other year, The Camerata Singers has been offering Handel’s monumental oratorio in its entirety.
Messiah, in three parts, on a text by Charles Jennens from the King James Bible and the Book of Common Prayer, is an extended reflection on the life of Jesus as the Messiah, the Christ, through wonderfully written solo arias and choruses that exhibit Handel's mastery at text painting.
Part I, known as the Christmas portion, deals with the prophecies and events surrounding the birth of Jesus. Part II, the Easter portion, concentrates on the Passion of Jesus, ending with the famous Hallelujah chorus. Part III covers the Apostle Paul's teachings on the Resurrection of the dead and Christ's glorification in heaven.
This year Camerata is joined by four superb soloists, Katelyn Grace Jackson, soprano; Roger O. Isaacs, countertenor; Rufus Müller, tenor; and Enrico Lagasca, baritone, as well as members of the PA Sinfonia Orchestra, all under the direction of Camerata's Artistic Director and Conductor, Eduardo Azzati.
About the soloists:
Hailed by the Washington Post for her “supple, haunting soprano,” Katelyn Jackson performs with intelligence and “particular purity of tone” (San Francisco Classical Voice).
Roger Isaacs is described by the Washington Post as a countertenor “quite extraordinary for both vocal quality and for his mastery of baroque style.”
Of Rufus Müller, a New York Times reviewer wrote following a performance in Carnegie Hall, (he is) “easily the best tenor I have heard in a live Messiah.”
Enrico Lagasca is an in-demand vocalist whose “smooth, dark bass voice” can be heard on five Grammy Award-nominated recordings.
Join us on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 7pm in the beautiful sanctuary of Allentown First Presbyterian Church, 3231 Tilghman St., Allentown, PA 18104. Head here to get your tickets!
